Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about creating and using your custom tarot and oracle decks.
How do I get started with the Deck Builder?
Begin by heading to the Deck Builder page. Enter your Hugging Face API token (free from huggingface.co/settings/tokens), then start creating cards by entering descriptive prompts. Choose between Tarot mode (78 cards) or Oracle mode (custom count). The AI will generate unique card images based on your descriptions!
What is a Hugging Face API token?
A token is a secure authentication key that allows you to use Hugging Face's AI image generation service for free. It's like a password that proves you're an authorized user.
To get one: Visit huggingface.co/settings/tokens, create a free account, and generate a new token. Paste it into the Deck Builder's API configuration panel.
How do I write an effective card prompt?
Include specific details about the card's energy, imagery, and symbolism. Example prompts:
- "The Star: nude healer pouring violet starlight from crown chakra, amethyst crystals, hope energy"
- "The Moon: mystical figure gazing at luminous moon, secrets and intuition, dreamlike"
- "Healing Oracle: hands channeling green light around heart, rose quartz crystals, compassion"
Tip: The AI automatically enhances prompts with tarot style, high resolution, and cosmic energy descriptors. You just need to capture the card's essence and vibe!
Can I edit cards after creating them?
Yes! Click on any card in your deck to edit its title, upright meaning, reversed meaning, and associated crystal. Your deck is fully customizable until you export it.
What is the difference between Tarot and Oracle mode?
Tarot Mode (78 cards): Follows the traditional tarot structure with Major and Minor Arcana. Perfect for those wanting a complete, structured divination system.
Oracle Mode (custom count): You choose how many cards you want (usually 30-50). Oracle cards are more flexible and intuitive, perfect for affirmations, specific themes, or beginners.
How long does it take to generate a card image?
Image generation typically takes 10-30 seconds depending on API load. You'll see a "Generating Image..." status while the AI creates your card. The button will be disabled until the process completes.
What if image generation fails?
If you get an error:
- Invalid token: Check that your Hugging Face token is correct and active
- Rate limit: Wait a few moments and try again (free tier has usage limits)
- API error: Try rephrasing your prompt to be more descriptive
- Connection issue: Check your internet connection and reload the page
How do I draw a spread?
Once you have at least 3 cards in your deck, click the "Draw Spread" button to reveal a 3-Card Spread showing Past, Present, and Future cards. Click again to draw a new spread. You can also do manual spreads by selecting cards intuitively!
How do I shuffle my deck?
Click the "Shuffle" button to randomize your deck's card order. You can shuffle as many times as you want before drawing a spread or reading.
Can I print my deck?
Yes! Click "Export PDF" to download your deck as a print-ready PDF (2.75" x 4.75" with bleed). Then:
- Open the PDF in Canva or Adobe InDesign
- Refine layouts and add finishing touches
- Send to a print vendor for professional printing
- CMYK Note: Use an external tool to convert RGB→CMYK for professional print quality
What printing services work best?

- Printful/Printfresh: On-demand printing with quality card stock
- MPC (Make Playing Cards): Professional printing specifically for card decks
- TheGameCrafter: Tarot-specific printing and fulfillment

Can I save my deck and come back later?
Your deck is saved in your browser's local storage. If you clear your browser data, your deck will be lost. Tip: Export your deck to PDF or screenshot your cards before clearing data!
Can I create multiple decks?
Each browser stores one active deck. To create a new deck, export your current one first, then click "Load Sample" to start fresh, or reload the page to begin anew.
Can I use cards created in the Deck Builder commercially?
Check with Hugging Face and Stability AI regarding their usage rights for images generated via their API. Most free tier uses allow personal/educational use. For commercial decks, review their terms or upgrade to a commercial license.
